I once worked as a technical writer for a call centre, with a corporate director who was illegal. We had no clue.

Tipu from Mumbai India. She ran her call centre like a tyrant. Deprived her less knowledgable staff of the right to vote in a Canadian Election, take sick days, attend family weddings. She made an older staffer get a doctors note for permission to pee outside of scheduled break times. She called me a trouble maker for showing my co workers websites that explain their rights. She responded by blocking our access to Canadian Government websites.

I did not know she was illegal. She was working on an expired student VISA. She was 23. Had no degrees. No credentials. No brain. Must have risen to the level of Director by sucking dicks.

Had I known her VISA expired I would have considered it my duty and honor to snitch. It was my pleasant surprise to see the authorities catch up with her. One day they just showed up without warning at our place of business and took her away, her hands zip tied behind her.

Bitch probably makes my socks in a sweatshop back home now.

Maybe you could tell us "SPECIFICALLY", why your interested in our individual personal interactions with illegal immigrants, prior to any of us reponding?

Why does any one else ask any other question on any other topic on this forum? Curiosity, conversation. It wouldn't do much good to ask about how some one feels on the topic if they've never actually interacted with any one who was illegal. I was asking the question from the point of view of personal experience, not what data tables, politicians and CNN tells us. I was asking about personal interactions and how people have felt like they've effected them one way or another.

I don't know of any illegals, they must be here somewhere because the government admits that there are some and the Daily Mail screams and shouts that they are all around us plotting to take over the country, but sadly I don't know where they are hiding, I hope they aren't in my garden shed.

 

Honestly, how strong their presence is varies depending on what part of the country you're in. And depending on where you are, it largely varies where the illegals in your area originated from. Being that I'm from Southern California, about three hours away from the border, there are a LOT of them in my area and 99.9% of them are Hispanic. There's not much variety where I live. In a town of about 100,000 people, 48% are Hispanic, 61% are White, and 5% are Black and 0.3% "Other" (Yes I realize that's more then 100% lol, but that's according to the census and I'm assuming there's some overlay e.g., people identifying as more then one race)

 

We all asked the same question. It didn't start out like that, but as the company got meaner and meaner, the handwriting was on the wall. It ended like that just before our centre and our sister site in Ottawa were not so gradually shut down and outsourced to the Phillppenes.

It's becoming more common in a global economy to find major businesses run their declining sites like this towards the end, to inspire resignations or backlash that can be used as grounds for dismissal. So much easier to clean house this way than lay off a couple thousand people.

My position ended when I was caught copying my weekly work schedule into my personal scheduler, something I had done for years. The accusation from HR, "uploading confidential information". My direct manager was purchasing his usual lunch at the pub across the street, chicken and chips. He was dismissed for suspicion of consuming alcohol during working hours. He was purchaing an order to go. You cannot purchase closed containers or alcohol to go at a pub in Ontario.

They systematically did this to a couple thousand of us. And closed shop a few weeks later. Clearly, they knew what they were doing when they assigned directorship to an illegal lackey. They needed a scapegoat. Had she not done the dirty work with such glee I would have felt bad for her. But like I said, noone was spared, right up to the director who was taken away in cuffs (zip ties).

 

I think its interesting at least that while all this emotion is being expended on "illegal immigration," new data shows there are as many immigrants leaving the US as entering and in fact there may very well be net loss of especially Mexicans returning to Mexico.

But we don't hear much about that now do we?

 

I have learned a very good trick while living in Texas...

Whenever I have to go somewhere there are long lines...I wear a green ball cap and about half of the line disappears..
