There’s money to be had in claims of victimization. Claims of victimization will never go away until that basic fact is changed. Whoever is or is perceived to have the deepest pockets will always be the villain. White privilege is the popular incantation of the moment and for the foreseeable future but the baton of victimization will eventually be passed on to some other group.

 

So tell me, what can a white guy do in this country that any other person of a different color can't?

 

I will argue that all points made by either side should be succinct so as not to lose the attention of the audience one wishes to convince. And I will also argue that too many warrants for one side or the other will be viewed as defensiveness. Basic argumentation techniques. In the greater debate these should be kept in mind. Doesn’t matter what side you are on.

 

My white privilege consists of the fact that when someone sees me walking between him or her after dark he or she does not cross the street to avoid my approach.

When I get on a bus women to not hold their purses more tightly. When I enter a store sales clerks do not scrutinize my behavior.

Nevertheless, I have been stopped and frisked a few times by police officers.

 

I was stopped by the Indiana state police last year and told I hit a rumble strip. I had plates from out of state. And I was on a highway leading out of Chicago. Next thing I knew I was strip searched on the side of the road on suspicion of drug trafficking which I do not do nor do I take! They found nothing of course and let me go after 30 minutes of humiliation. I’m white and I was profiled all the same. I chose to move thousands of kilometers away just to protect my civil rights. The problem is not race. It’s overzealous cops with no oversight. The power has gone to their heads and it’s been enabled by people who trust them more than they can possibly deserve. Now when I hear about police brutality I assume it’s true and when I hear of police convictions I cheer. Police state has a whole different meaning for me

 

So if there is white privilege I have not seen it
